  1. It is not clear EV is clearner, since electricity is made from burning fossil fuel. And higher density storage of energy is possible with hydrogen, alcohol, or other chemical means than batteries, even if the original source is solar, wind, hydro, or nuclear. The high cost and risk of batteries can be over come with easily swapable battery packs, but no one seems to be working on that.
    The advantage of chemical energy storage is not just that you do not need entirely different vehicles and have denser storage, but that you can also take advantage of bio fuels, that remove more pollution than EVs ever could.
    I believe we will need all possible alternatives to fossil fuels, as they run out. Planes, trains, and long range driving will not go EV. But short commuters likely will.
