Is 5G dangerous? A Huge difference between 5G and 4G | 5G vs 4G

Know everything about 5G network – speed, latency, availability, 5G vs 4G, is 5G dangerous and several other details.
At present, almost the whole world is connected to the internet and the speed at which we transfer data is no doubt unbelievably fast. Over billions of users use data every year and its increasing day by day, hence different companies started to improve their spectrum to match the speed of usage.
Do you remember when 4G arrived, it made a huge difference compared to the 3rd generation by providing high-speed streaming, video calling, and Live TV experience on the go.
So the question is, how 5G (5th generation) can improve the network technology to a new level?
Let us discuss what is 5G network, how it works, and how 5G is better than 4G? | 5G vs 4G and finally, some general questions from the audience like, Is 5G dangerous concerning human health?
What is 5G?
5G is a fifth-generation of wireless networking technology. It is a whole new step-upgrade and significantly faster than its old version of networks (2G, 3G, 4G). 5G is designed to connect the whole world seamlessly.

As 5G continues to evolve, it will most likely improve the connectivity by a large scale in future technologies like IoT, self-driving cars, mixed reality experience, etc.

How 5G network works?
Unlike 4G which has a frequency of sub 6Ghz, 5G is built on an mm-wave spectrum which has a frequency between 24Ghz and 100Ghz. It has a transfer rate of more than a few Gbps.
This means you can load content like videos, web applications, and many more in an instant with high quality. 5G is built on a new radio waves that has a data speed up to 20Gbps at its peak, which is 500% faster than 4G LTE. Imagine downloading 4k movies within a minute or two with your mobile data.

Although the 5G network has so many advantages over its previous version, there are few flaws and issues that need to be resolved before expanding it all over the world.
5G vs 4G comparison
Properties | 4G | 5G |
---|---|---|
Speed | around 100Mbps, up to 20Mbps data rate | up to 20Gbps, 100Mbps data rate |
Bandwidth | 5 MHz and 20 MHz | 5-100 MHz and above |
Latency | 20-30 milliseconds | less than 10 milliseconds |
Frequency | 2 – 8 GHz | 24.25 GHz and above |
Response rate | Normal | High |
Coverage | less than 100,000 devices per square kilometer | million devices per square kilometer |
Features | Supports high-speed multimedia, video calling, faster Wi-Fi, and broadband services. | Supports IoT devices, blazing-fast internet contents, self-driving cars. |
Availability | 2006-10 | 2020 |
There are many more advantages of 5G which can take us to a new level of digital connectivity. Despite having so many pros, they are flaws too and it is a big one. Ex: Is 5G dangerous.

As we know, lower the frequency, higher the range; but in the case of 5G having a relatively high frequency, hence the range is less .This is the reason, why 5Ghz wifi doesn’t travel as far as 2Ghz wifi.
In simple terms, if an area consists of one 4G tower to provide internet stability, it would require 5 or more 5G tower for that same area. 5G speed stability also fluctuates because of some obstacles like a wall, building, etc.
Another major issue was bought into the picture when 5G was announced to have so high frequency. i.e. What about its effect on human health?
Is 5G dangerous? Is 5G harmful due to its high radiation cellular signals?
Is 5G dangerous for our health?
Concerns regarding 5G has arrived that the high-frequency radiation emitted though 5G towers could be harmful and may cause health issues.
Much higher authorities in the US even explains about researching more on the cellular radiation and its effects. Switzerland has started to check 5G impact on people.
This fear is caused due to the large number of 5G tower that is to be placed in a single area where people live. To get a proper speed 5G connection, the tower should be as near as possible, around 100m. Hence people’s panicking is relatable.
Most of the people even claim that it can cause heart disease, cancer, headaches, etc. FCC and food administration has quoted that their is no need to panic, it is safe.
Researchers couldn’t find anything common in networks and disease, therefore they suggest that 5G is safe.
The answer to this question, Is 5G dangerous? is that 5G is safe.
These radiation issues are not only for 5G, while 3G and 4G were introduced, these concerns came into the picture but it was not proven that cellular network could cause any disease. Whereas WHO explains the possibilities of radiation from cellphones might cause brain cancer.
According to my opinion, 5G is safe for now. But there is a probability of causing something (might be a disease) due to more number of 5G towers and radiations emitted.

The solution to this issue would be to find an alternate way to increase their range of 5G connectivity.
Suggestion:- Be safe: While sleeping, avoid keeping smartphones near you.
Not only it will provide you with a peace of mind but also good for your health. 😄
When 5G towers would be commercialized around the world?
Requirements for 5G towers is roughly 5 times or more than 4G, it requires time to develop infrastructure. Many top companies are investing in 5G and few countries have even started testing 5G in some areas.
To generalize the 5G networks worldwide, it may take more time than usual because of its investment and mainly 5G towers development. (Probably 4 years from this date).
5G has already started to roll out in 20 countries and more. Probably most of the phones supporting 5G may arrive by the end of 2020.
